Aifen Fix Complete, Quality Upgrades Done, Production Ramping Up & Shipping This Month

Dear SOLDR customers,

First of all, thank you for your incredible patience and support. We know the wait has been longer than expected, and we completely understand how frustrating that can be. Our plan was to send out the assembled units during the last week of October but due to the Aifen problem we found (mentioned below - now fixed) we had to postpone shipping to November. Your enthusiasm and belief in SOLDR keep us going every day, and we're genuinely grateful for each one of you.

🧰 What's Been Happening:

After the first batch of kits was shipped to Kickstarter backers, we took a short pause to improve overall quality based on their feedback.

Here's what we fixed:

  • Higher 3D-print quality and tighter quality control

  • Improved packaging process to ensure no parts are missing

  • Stronger hinges and a more stable locking mechanism for the case

These updates are now complete, and production is running smoothly again.

⚠️ Aifen Pen & Tip Update:

During final quality checks, we discovered that the soldering tips included with the Aifen Pen had too low resistance (around 2.0 Ω), which could cause a reboot when used with certain power banks.

We worked closely with Aifen, who have been very responsive and professional, to identify and resolve the issue.

All tips are now being replaced with 2.5–2.6 Ω versions, which fully fix the problem and ensure reliable performance across a wide range of power banks.

Because of this, we temporarily paused assembly to rework all existing kits with the updated tips. The issue was caught during our own field testing and has now been completely resolved.

The Aifen soldering pen is normally sold as part of a soldering station, so this issue was also new to Aifen, as they do not design or market it for use with power banks.

If you purchase additional tips in the future and plan to use your pen with a power bank, please choose tips with 2.5–2.6 Ω resistance to avoid compatibility issues. The 2.0 Ω tips may still work with some power banks, but in our testing, the issue appeared on both older and newer models of powerbanks.

🚚 Shipping Status:

Our main challenge recently has been shipping regulations. Each SOLDR kit includes:
  • Flux compound (classified as a chemical)

  • A battery for the fan + light module

  • Several magnets

Each of these components requires specific transport certifications. Testing is complete, and the final approvals are now being processed with our suppliers.

We had planned to use FedEx as our main carrier, but their certification requirements for flux and magnets have taken longer than expected. To keep deliveries moving, we're temporarily using an alternative logistics partner through November, and will switch back to FedEx once all certifications are finalized.

To offset these delays, we're also increasing production speed from around 300–500 units per week to up to 1000 units per week.

This ramp-up will happen gradually, but we expect the majority of orders to ship during November for all kit types (Deluxe, Original, DIY, and add-ons).

🧴 About the Flux:

The small tube of flux included with each kit requires separate certification before it can be shipped.

Until those certifications are completed, the first batches will not include flux, and it will be added to future shipments once approved.

🔜 What's Next:

Production is ongoing, quality has improved across the board, and shipping is actively resuming.

Batch 1 orders will be sent out this month. Batch 2 still on schedule to being sent out in December.

Shipping Update: 4th of September 2025

Hi everyone — quick update on where things stand.

Material upgrade:

During beta testing in warm conditions we noticed some plastic parts warping. To ensure long-term durability, we made the decision to switch from PLA to PETG-Carbon Fiber + ABS . This material is much stronger, more heat-resistant, and overall more premium. The change took extra time, but it significantly improves the final product.

Production:

This week we’ve started 100 final units for quality checks and pipeline testing before scaling up to mass production. This is our last major step before full-scale delivery.

Heat transfer test:

We ran tests with the soldering iron at maximum temperature (450°C):

  • 15 minutes in the holder: No noticeable effect, all surfaces stayed cool.

  • 3 minutes close to the holder: Plastic softened slightly but returned to normal stiffness within ~10 seconds after the iron was removed.
Conclusion:

The new PETG-CF material passed without concerns. It performs far better than PLA in high-heat situations and is a clear upgrade for durability (see picture below).

Delivery timeline:

Kickstarter backers: First units will ship in late September 2025. Some will receive theirs in September, most in October.

E-commerce customers: Deliveries will follow in October 2025.

We know waiting is frustrating, but this upgrade and extra testing are making SOLDR a better product.

Thank you for your patience and for supporting us on this journey 💛

Shipping Update

Shipping Update: 27th of June 2025

Hi everyone—Alex here. Planning for mass production is progressing as expected. One supplier unexpectedly just extended lead-times for two components (wire cutters and multimeters) from 1–2 weeks to about 4–5 weeks though, and this will prolong our shipping date in a minor way.

For Kickstarter backers this means:

  • Production begins in: August 2025
  • Estimated delivery: Most packages should land throughout September.

  • For E-commerce customers this means:

  • Estimated delivery: Most packages should land throughout October.

  • We will use this extra window to triple-check every module and make sure SOLDR is as polished as you deserve. Thanks for sticking with us and for all your support—it truly keeps the team and me motivated.
